Intro to Computers

While basic computer skills include knowing how to type, understanding social media and having general web skills, there are several more to consider, such as: Productivity software is software that helps create information in various formats, such as documents, graphs, worksheets and presentations.

Worldwide Computer Network

The Internet (or internet)[a] is the global system of interconnected computer networks that uses the Internet protocol suite (TCP/IP)[b] to communicate between networks and devices. It is a network of networks that consists of private, public, academic, business, and government networks of local to global scope, linked by a broad array of electronic, wireless, and optical networking technologies. The Internet carries a vast range of information resources and services, such as the inter-linked hypertext documents and applications of the World Wide Web (WWW), electronic mailtelephony, and file sharing.



What are peripherals and are they hardware or software?

Hardware are designed to provide instructions to software or render results from its execution. Peripherals are designed to provide extra function as well as data input and output functionality to computer. Type of hardware includes input devices, processing devices, output devices, memory or storage devices, etc.

  • Monitor. A monitor is the computer’s display. Like a tv lets you see television channels

  • Mouse. interface with the objects displayed on the computer’s monitor.

  • Keyboard. What allows you to type things into your computer. 

  • Speakers. The purpose of speakers is to produce audio output that can be heard by the listener.

  • Webcam. A video camera whose output may be viewed in real time over a network, especially over the Internet.

Basic computer skills refer to your ability to perform essential tasks on a computer. Understanding certain software, programs, tools and more. Computer skills  categories: software and hardware. Hardware refers to the computer's operation, whereas software involves the use of various programs 

Some common computer skills include:

  • Microsoft Office Suite

  • Spreadsheets

  • Email communication
